Nitish Kumar Meets Mathematician Vashistha Narain Singh In Patna Visit

Nitish Kumar meets Vashistha Narain Singh in Patna, India and visits JD(U) office.

Former Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) National President Nitish Kumar made a series of unscheduled public appearances on Monday, including visits to veteran party leader Vashishtha Narain Singh’s residence and the Janata Dal (United) state headquarters in Patna. The unexpected movements drew attention in political circles, with observers linking them to possible internal organisational developments within the party.

Nitish Kumar first visited the home of Vashishtha Narain Singh, a senior JD(U) leader considered one of his long-time political associates. The meeting lasted around 10 minutes, during which Kumar enquired about Singh’s health and exchanged brief pleasantries. The visit was described as informal but notable, given the timing and the seniority of the leader involved.

Vashishtha Narain Singh has played a significant role in the party’s organisational growth over the years. He previously served as JD(U)’s state president and later held the position of national vice-president under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. He has also served as a minister in a government led by Lalu Prasad Yadav and was later nominated to the Rajya Sabha. However, due to age and health concerns, he is currently not active in any organisational or legislative role.

The visit has gained additional attention amid ongoing discussions within the party regarding the political future of Singh’s son, Sonu Singh. Reports suggest his name had been considered for a vacant Legislative Council seat, though no consensus was reached within the party. Earlier remarks by former MP Anand Mohan Singh, who suggested that the senior leader was being sidelined, have further intensified speculation around internal party dynamics.

Following the residence visit, Nitish Kumar proceeded to the JD(U) state office in Patna, where he met party leaders and workers. He spent a brief period at the headquarters, engaging with organisational members before returning to his residence. While no official statements were issued, the timing of the visits has been widely noted in political discussions.

Although the JD(U) has not announced any formal decisions, Nitish Kumar’s increased public engagements have prompted speculation about possible organisational reshuffles or strategic planning ahead of future electoral cycles. Party insiders have not confirmed any changes, but the back-to-back visits are being closely watched within Bihar’s political landscape.
