Nitish Kumar Forms 24-Member Janata Dal (United) National Team For Organisational Restructure

Nitish Kumar restructures JD-U national team while Nishant Kumar prepares Bihar statewide political outreach yatra.

The Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday announced a major organisational reshuffle at the national level, unveiling a 24-member team aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and outreach. The move comes as part of a broader effort to revitalise the party’s internal framework and prepare for upcoming political challenges.

According to the announcement, senior JD-U leader Nitish Kumar will continue as the party’s national president, while Sanjay Kumar Jha has been appointed as the National Working President. The reshuffle also includes key appointments across organisational roles, with Chandeshwar Chandravanshi named Vice President and Alok Kumar Suman taking charge as Treasurer.

Several senior leaders have been given responsibilities as General Secretaries and Secretaries, reflecting an attempt to balance experience with organisational efficiency. Prominent names include Manish Kumar Verma, Shyam Rajak, Ashok Choudhary, and others in key coordination roles, while a wider group of leaders has been assigned secretarial responsibilities to strengthen party functioning at multiple levels.

The restructuring follows a recent JD-U Legislative Party meeting held on April 20, during which Nitish Kumar was authorised to take key organisational decisions. As part of the internal changes, Shravan Kumar was also appointed as the JD-U Legislative Party leader in the Bihar Assembly, signalling a push to streamline leadership roles within the state unit.

In a parallel development, Nishant Kumar, son of Nitish Kumar, is set to begin a statewide political outreach programme in Bihar from May 3. The proposed yatra is aimed at connecting directly with people across districts and expanding grassroots engagement for the party. It is expected to cover a wide range of constituencies as part of a broader mobilisation effort.

The organisational overhaul and renewed outreach initiatives are being viewed as an attempt by JD-U to consolidate its internal structure and strengthen its political base. With leadership responsibilities being redistributed and new public engagement plans underway, the party appears focused on reinforcing its presence ahead of future electoral and administrative challenges.
