Nitish Kumar Boosts Pensions for 1.11 Crore in Bihar
Rs 1,227 crore credited to support vulnerable groups.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar disbursed the first instalment of an enhanced pension of Rs 1,100 per month to 1.11 crore beneficiaries, including senior citizens, widows, and people with disabilities, on Friday. Over Rs 1,227 crore was credited under six pension schemes during a function in Patna, following the state’s decision on June 24 to raise pensions from Rs 400. “Ensuring a dignified life for the elderly is our top priority,” Kumar said, committing to monthly disbursements by the 10th.
Kumar highlighted his government’s focus on women’s empowerment through education, security, and employment, claiming significant progress since 2005 compared to previous administrations.
Reflecting on past political alliances, he admitted to “straying” twice but reaffirmed his commitment to the NDA for Bihar’s development. The pension hike, benefiting 76 lakh elderly, 22 lakh widows, and others, aims to enhance social security and economic stability for vulnerable groups across the state.
