NIA Cracks Down on Al Qaida Module Operated by Bangladeshi Nationals Across India

The National Investigation Agency launched coordinated searches at 10 strategic locations across West Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya, Haryana, and Gujarat on Wednesday, targeting a sophisticated Al Qaida terror module allegedly run by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants based in Gujarat. The operation, executed simultaneously by multiple NIA teams, focused on residences, hideouts, and digital footprints of key suspects and their local associates, aiming to dismantle a clandestine network involved in funding, recruitment, and radicalization across state lines.
The case, registered in 2023, centers on four Bangladeshi nationals—Mohd. Sojibmiyan, Munna Khalid Ansari, Azarul Islam, and Abdul Latif—who infiltrated India using forged Indian identity documents such as Aadhaar and voter IDs. NIA probes established their direct operational links with the banned Al Qaida terrorist organization, including regular financial transfers to handlers in Bangladesh and systematic efforts to motivate and recruit vulnerable Muslim youth into extremist ideology.
During the raids, authorities seized a large cache of digital devices—including mobile phones, laptops, and storage drives—along with incriminating documents, financial records, and propaganda material. All seized items have been sent for advanced forensic analysis to trace communication patterns, funding trails, and potential sleeper cells, with early findings expected to reveal deeper cross-border coordination.

The agency had earlier filed a comprehensive charge sheet on November 10, 2023, before the Special NIA Court in Ahmedabad, formally accusing the quartet of waging war against India and conspiring to establish terror infrastructure. The Gujarat module is believed to have served as a critical node for Al Qaida’s resurgence attempts in western India, leveraging porous borders and local support systems.
This multi-state crackdown underscores rising national security concerns over foreign nationals exploiting immigration loopholes to establish terror footholds. The NIA continues its aggressive pursuit, signaling zero tolerance for infiltration-driven threats as forensic reports and follow-up interrogations are expected to widen the investigation net.
