NIA Chargesheets 5 for Spreading AQIS Terror Ideology on Social Media

NIA chargesheets five people, including a woman, for propagating AQIS terror ideology online in Gujarat.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed chargesheets against five individuals, including a woman, in a high-profile case related to online radicalisation by the banned terror group Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The accused were allegedly spreading extremist content to influence vulnerable youth in Gujarat and other parts of India.

The accused – Mohammad Fardeen, Kureshi Sefulla, Mohammad Faique, Zeeshan Ali, and Shama Parveen – were named in the charge sheet submitted to a special NIA court in Ahmedabad. The agency revealed that they used social media platforms to post provocative videos, audios, and images promoting anti-India ideologies and calling for armed revolt against the democratically elected government.

Investigations showed that the accused sought the establishment of a Caliphate under Sharia law while promoting extremist ideologies of other proscribed terror groups to radicalise gullible youth. NIA, which had taken over the case from ATS Gujarat, recovered incriminating material in both paper and digital formats along with deadly weapons, including a semi-automatic pistol with cartridges and a sword from two of the accused.

Shama Parveen, from Bengaluru, actively shared AQIS videos and engaged with extremist groups online after attacks like Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor. She was also in contact with a Pakistani national, exchanging screenshots and discussing banned literature and operations. Her mobile contained radical books, videos, and Pakistani contacts, all seized by investigators.

Mohammad Faique of Old Delhi played a central role by sharing radical posts on Jihad, Ghazwa-e-Hind, and violence against specific communities. He circulated extremist literature linked to AQIS and Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed leaders through his Instagram account and private groups, collaborating with other accused to spread content widely.

The NIA stated that the chargesheets and ongoing investigation aim to enforce deterrence and uphold discipline by curbing online radicalisation. Authorities continue to track digital footprints and extremist networks to prevent the further spread of terror ideologies in India.
