NHAI Launches Rs 350 Monthly Toll Pass: Eligibility and How to Apply

NHAI expands digital monthly toll pass facility to 121 highway plazas.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its digital FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible local commuters to apply for a monthly pass online. Starting at Rs 350, the pass is designed for residents who frequently use the same toll plaza and removes the need to visit toll booths or submit physical documents. Applications can now be made through the Rajmargyatra mobile app, making the process more convenient for regular highway users.

The monthly Local Pass is available to residents living within a 20-km radius of an eligible toll plaza. Those who qualify can use the pass for unlimited crossings through the respective toll plaza during the month, subject to applicable rules. The facility can be particularly useful for people who regularly travel through a toll plaza for work, daily errands or other routine journeys. However, the pass is available only at designated toll plazas, so commuters must first check whether their local toll plaza is covered under the digital facility.

The application process has been shifted entirely online through the Rajmargyatra app. According to the government, the system uses consent-based integration with digital platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to verify the applicant's residential address, vehicle information and FASTag details. Eligibility is then assessed through GIS-based verification to determine whether the applicant's registered address falls within the required 20-km radius of the toll plaza.

The digital process is intended to reduce paperwork and eliminate the need for physical verification at toll plazas. After providing consent, applicants' relevant information can be retrieved from government databases, including their residential address, vehicle details and FASTag linked to the vehicle. The system then checks the location of the registered address against the toll plaza through digital mapping, allowing eligible applicants to complete the process without separately submitting physical documents.

NHAI initially introduced the digital Local Pass facility in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II in Delhi. Following the initial rollout, the facility was expanded to 121 toll plazas across India. Commuters can check the list of covered toll plazas through the Rajmargyatra portal before beginning their application, while the government has indicated that the facility will be extended to additional locations in the coming months.

The online system is aimed at making the Local Pass application faster, more transparent and less dependent on manual procedures. Earlier, eligible residents generally had to visit the concerned toll plaza and provide documents to establish their local address. With digital verification now available, frequent commuters at covered toll plazas can apply remotely and manage their monthly travel more conveniently. The Rs 350 starting price could make the pass particularly useful for those who cross the same toll plaza regularly, although eligibility and other applicable conditions will continue to depend on the rules for each covered location.
