New Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla Arrives In Hyderabad, Oath Tomorrow

Shiv Pratap Shukla arrives in Hyderabad as Telangana’s new Governor; CM Revanth Reddy and officials receive him.

Telangana’s newly-appointed Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday to take charge of the state. He was received at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with Industries and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, and other senior officials.

President Droupadi Murmu had appointed Shukla as the Governor of Telangana on Thursday. He is expected to be sworn in on Wednesday, succeeding Jishnu Dev Varma Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and Hyderabad District Collector Harichandana Dasari, on Monday.

Shukla, currently serving as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, was sworn in there on February 18, 2023. Born on April 1, 1952, in Rudrapur village of Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh, he was active in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during his student days.

He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1983 and was first elected from the Gorakhpur Nagar assembly constituency in 1989. He was re-elected in 1991 and served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education, Adult Education, and Language Department under Chief Minister Kalyan Singh. Over subsequent terms, he held portfolios including Horticulture, Sports, Youth Welfare, Food Processing, Prison, Law and Justice, and Rural Development.

In 2016, Shukla was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh and later served as Minister of State for Finance in the Modi government until July 4, 2022. His extensive experience in state and central governance positions him as a seasoned administrator to assume the gubernatorial responsibilities in Telangana.

Officials and political leaders welcomed Shukla’s arrival, highlighting the continuity of administrative support for the state government as he prepares to formally take office.
