New AIIMS Must Achieve World-Class Standards in Care and Education: J.P. Nadda
Health Minister calls for world-class standards, AI integration, and patient-focused care at new AIIMS.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda on Friday urged newly established All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to progressively set world standards in patient care and medical education while retaining the core ethos of the AIIMS system. Addressing the ‘Leadership Conclave’ for Presidents and Executive Directors of new AIIMS, he highlighted the importance of a balanced approach to patient care, teaching, and research.
Emphasising a patient-centric model, Nadda stressed the need for structured feedback mechanisms to enhance patient satisfaction. He called for innovative solutions, transparency, and accountability in institutional decision-making, noting that effective administrative leadership must go hand-in-hand with academic excellence to drive AIIMS forward.
Nadda lauded the establishment of a collaborative research consortium among 20 AIIMS institutions, aimed at advancing health research aligned with national priorities. He encouraged institutions to foster mutual support and coordinated growth to strengthen the AIIMS network across the country.

Highlighting the role of technology, the minister urged integration of Artificial Intelligence in diagnostics and clinical decision-making, alongside institutionalising telemedicine services as a standard component of patient care. These measures, he said, will modernize healthcare delivery and expand access to quality medical services.
He further recommended the regular conduction of structured examinations like NORCET and the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) for nursing and non-faculty staff to ensure timely appointments. Affordable access to medicines should also be guaranteed through Jan Aushadhi Kendras and AMRIT Pharmacies in every AIIMS.
Finally, Nadda called for structured mechanisms for faculty and student exchanges between AIIMS and other Institutes of National Importance. He underlined the crucial role of AIIMS in capacity building for teaching and nursing, reinforcing the network’s leadership in shaping India’s healthcare and medical education landscape.
