Nepal Flash Floods Leave At Least 8 Dead, Rescue Operations Underway
Flash floods kill eight in Nepal as rescue operations continue.
At least eight people have died and several others remain missing after a sudden flash flood swept through parts of Nepal’s Rasuwa district on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction near the country’s border with Tibet. The disaster affected villages and multiple project sites, while rescue teams were mobilised across the affected areas.
The flash flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 am local time, with reports indicating that the floodwaters came from the direction of Tibet. The sudden rise in water levels caught areas along the river off guard, triggering extensive damage and raising concerns about the safety of people living and working in the region.
Timure in Rasuwa district was among the worst-affected areas, while nearby Syafrubesi also witnessed destruction. According to the Nepal Army, vehicles, goods and other property were swept away by the powerful floodwaters. The extent of damage to infrastructure and other facilities was still being assessed as rescue operations continued.

The flooding has also affected several project sites in the region, adding to the disruption caused by the rapidly rising river. With several people reported missing, authorities have intensified efforts to locate those who may have been affected and assess the situation in areas that remain difficult to access.
The Nepal Prime Minister’s Office has directed security forces to strengthen rescue and relief operations in Rasuwa and surrounding areas. Personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been deployed to assist with rescue efforts, provide relief and respond to the emergency.
Authorities are continuing to assess the situation as rescue operations remain underway. Further information on casualties, missing persons and the extent of property and infrastructure damage is expected as teams reach more affected locations and gather details from the flood-hit areas.
