NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Held Across 5,440 Centres With Over 20 Lakh Candidates
NEET UG 2026 re-exam held across 5,440 centres nationwide.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) successfully conducted the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination on June 21 across a massive network of 5,440 examination centres in India and 14 centres abroad, with over 20 lakh candidates appearing for one of the country’s largest competitive entrance tests. The exam was held in 13 languages, including Hindi and English, and was conducted under a tightly monitored nationwide security framework.
The re-examination was carried out under a multi-layer security system designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and prevention of malpractice. This included Aadhaar-based biometric verification, facial authentication, extensive CCTV surveillance, electronic jammers at centres, and a two-stage frisking process conducted with the assistance of state police forces. Authorities stated that the layered approach was intended to create a controlled and secure examination environment across all regions.
To ensure real-time monitoring, CCTV feeds from examination centres were linked to multiple command-and-control hubs. These included monitoring centres at the National Testing Agency headquarters, the Ministry of Education, 34 Centrally Funded Institutions, state-level control rooms, and district collectorates. Officials said this multi-tier surveillance system allowed continuous oversight of examination conduct across the country.

The scale of coordination required for the examination involved multiple central and state agencies working in tandem. Support was extended by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Posts, Indian Air Force, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Financial and logistical support was also provided by banking partners including SBI, Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank, and UCO Bank.
Authorities said the involvement of such a wide network of agencies was necessary due to the scale and sensitivity of the examination, which serves as the primary gateway for admission into medical courses across India. The coordination ensured smooth logistics for question paper distribution, centre security, candidate verification, and post-exam handling of materials. Officials further noted that the examination was conducted without major disruptions, reflecting improved planning and coordination mechanisms developed over recent years.
With lakhs of students appearing across diverse geographic regions, including remote and international centres, the NTA emphasised that maintaining uniform standards was a key operational priority. The successful completion of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination underscores the increasing complexity of conducting nationwide entrance tests in India, where large candidate volumes require extensive administrative, technological, and security integration to ensure integrity and fairness in the examination process.
