NEET Row: Punjab Minister Interacts With Students Who Cleared Medical Entrance Exam

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Monday met students from his constituency who successfully cleared the NEET and JEE Mains examinations in 2026, describing their achievements as one of his biggest accomplishments. The meeting took place amid a political controversy in the state over allegations of examination paper leaks. Bains shared details of his interaction with the students and congratulated them for their success in two of the country’s most competitive entrance examinations.

He said encouraging students and supporting their academic journeys remained among his key priorities as education minister. The meeting, however, comes at a time when the Punjab government is facing criticism from opposition parties over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have targeted Bains and demanded his resignation over claims of paper leaks in the state.

The controversy has intensified following nationwide concerns over examination security and alleged leaks affecting major entrance tests. Opposition parties have accused governments of failing to protect the interests of students and ensure transparency in the examination process. The BJP has referred to Bains as “shameless” and has sought accountability from the Punjab government. The SAD has also joined calls for his resignation, alleging that questions surrounding examination integrity require immediate action.

Student groups have continued to demand reforms that prevent leaks and ensure a fair process for all candidates.
