NDA Reacts To Viral Video Involving Mamata Banerjee, Political Debate Intensifies
NDA reacts to viral video involving Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has criticised former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following a viral video that allegedly showed her slapping a Trinamool Congress worker during a party protest in Kolkata. The incident has triggered a political confrontation, with BJP and Janata Dal (United) leaders accusing Banerjee of undermining democratic values.
The alleged incident took place during a Trinamool Congress protest march against the reported rape and murder of a minor in Baruipur. The march, which began from the Ballygunge outpost and moved towards Hazra Crossing in south Kolkata, was held after directions from the Calcutta High Court.
BJP MP Dinesh Sharma accused Mamata Banerjee of encouraging confrontation and said political parties should avoid provocative statements and actions. He called for maintaining the “dignity of democracy” and said that any person involved in violence should face consequences, regardless of political affiliation.

JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan also criticised Banerjee, alleging that she has not changed her political approach. He said leaders who treat political organisations as personal entities often face public rejection and warned that such incidents could create further challenges for the Trinamool Congress in the future.
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh also targeted the Trinamool Congress, claiming that the party lacked a strong organisational structure and was facing internal problems. BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi meanwhile said political disappointment after electoral setbacks is common but described the controversy as unusual, urging Trinamool leaders to reflect on the reasons behind growing internal issues.
JD(U) chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said disagreements are a normal part of political activity but added that disruptive behaviour cannot be accepted. The remarks came after the Trinamool Congress alleged that its workers were attacked during the protest, adding another layer to the ongoing political dispute in West Bengal.
