NCERT Marks 66th Foundation Day With AI, Multilingual Learning And New Facilities
NCERT expands AI, multilingual education and technology-focused learning.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on Tuesday marked its 66th Foundation Day in New Delhi, with the celebrations highlighting innovation, inclusivity, research and the changing needs of education. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi called for NCERT to strengthen its role as a forward-looking institution capable of preparing students for a rapidly evolving world.
Joshi noted that NCERT has already introduced new textbooks for Classes 1 to 9 in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). He also announced that revised textbooks for Classes 10 to 12 are being developed on a mission-mode basis. The minister underlined the importance of building an education system that supports the vision of a Viksit Bharat while developing skilled, responsible and globally competitive citizens.
The growing role of artificial intelligence in education also featured prominently during the celebrations. Joshi stressed the need for textbooks and teaching methods to evolve alongside emerging technologies, enabling students to understand AI and use it responsibly. He also highlighted the importance of parents being aware of children’s digital habits so they can provide appropriate guidance as technology becomes increasingly integrated into everyday learning.

NCERT’s focus on multilingual and inclusive education was another key area highlighted at the event. The council is working to prepare textbooks for Classes 1 to 8 in all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. It is also developing 121 language primers, including materials in 93 tribal languages, as part of efforts to make educational resources more accessible to students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
During the Foundation Day programme, Joshi inaugurated several new facilities aimed at strengthening learning and educational content development. These included a Robotics Learning Centre, a Translation Lab and an upgraded television studio. The facilities are expected to support technology-driven learning, multilingual content creation and the development of new educational resources.
The initiatives come as NCERT seeks to align its academic resources with changing educational requirements and emerging technologies. The emphasis on artificial intelligence, multilingual learning, robotics and updated textbooks reflects a broader effort to equip students and teachers with resources suited to next-generation classrooms while maintaining a focus on inclusion and research.
