‘Nation Paying With Health and Economy’: Rahul Gandhi Issues Fresh Warning on Air Pollution Crisis
Rahul Gandhi urges action on air pollution's severe health and economic impacts, especially on children and elderly.
Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday renewed his criticism over rising air pollution levels, stating that Indians are paying a heavy price with their health and livelihoods. He said the crisis is not only affecting public health but is also inflicting serious damage on the country’s economy.
In a post on X, Gandhi highlighted that crores of ordinary Indians are forced to bear the consequences of air pollution on a daily basis. He noted that prolonged exposure to poor air quality has become a routine reality in many parts of the country, particularly during the winter months.
Emphasising the human cost, Gandhi said that children and the elderly are the most vulnerable to air pollution-related illnesses. He also pointed out that livelihoods, especially those of construction workers and daily wage earners, suffer significantly when hazardous air quality disrupts work and economic activity.

The former Congress president stressed that the issue should not fade from public attention once the winter season ends. Calling for sustained public pressure, he said that raising voices against air pollution is the first step toward meaningful and lasting change.
As part of his outreach, Gandhi urged citizens to share their personal experiences of how air pollution has affected them or their loved ones. He invited people to submit their views through his website, assuring them that their voices would be amplified at the national level.
Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised concerns about air pollution in recent months and had also demanded a dedicated discussion on the issue during the Winter Session of Parliament. The Congress leader reiterated his commitment to pushing for accountability and long-term solutions to address the growing environmental crisis.
