Narayan Bareth, Iconic Indian Journalist, Passed Away In Jaipur

Veteran journalist Narayan Bareth passes away, remembered for his principled reporting.

The journalism community in Rajasthan is mourning the loss of Veteran Correspondent Narayan Bareth, who passed away late Friday night following a cardiac arrest. Bareth, who had been hospitalised for several days while battling pneumonia, was widely respected for his principled reporting and contributions to Indian journalism. His funeral is scheduled to take place in Jaipur later today.

Bareth was best known for his long-standing association with the BBC, where his in-depth reporting made him a household name. Over the years, he earned a reputation for rigor, integrity, and a commitment to public-interest journalism. Beyond his media career, Bareth served as the Rajasthan Information Commissioner, where he was praised for his efficient administration and strong support for the Right to Information.

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot expressed his grief over Bareth’s passing, highlighting his enduring contribution to journalism. “Bareth had established a 'distinct identity' with his dedication to public-interest journalism. Be it his reports for international broadcasters or his chairmanship of information commission hearings, Bareth always left an indelible impression of integrity and professionalism,” Gehlot said.
