Nanded Farmers to Receive Full Crop Loss Relief as Rs 553 Crore Payout Begins
Maharashtra’s Nanded leads with 100% payout to farmers affected by heavy rains starting September 22.
In a significant relief measure, Nanded has become the first district in Maharashtra to provide 100% compensation to farmers for crop losses caused by heavy rainfall and natural calamities, announced State Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne. The distribution of Rs 553.48 crore in relief funds is set to commence on Monday, September 22, 2025.
An additional Rs 20.81 crore has been allocated for farmers with eroded and silt-affected lands. The government is expediting the process by uploading lists of affected farmers to its portal, ensuring direct bank transfers of the sanctioned amounts. “Nanded is the first district where farmers, whose crops have been affected due to heavy rains, will get 100% relief,” Bharne stated.
According to district data, crops across 648,533 hectares were damaged, impacting approximately 7.74 lakh farmers. About 86% of the Kharif sowing area suffered losses, with significant damage to soybean, cotton, tur, moong, urad, jowar, vegetables, turmeric, and banana crops. Compensation rates have been set at Rs 8,500 per hectare for rain-fed crops, Rs 17,000 per hectare for irrigated crops, and Rs 22,500 per hectare for horticulture crops.

The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering maximum assistance swiftly. This follows an earlier phase of relief, where Rs 73.54 crore was disbursed for crop damage in June and July across districts including Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Hingoli, Solapur, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. The second phase, addressing losses since August, has cleared compensation for Nanded, with announcements for other districts expected soon.
