Nalanda Visit: CEC Gyanesh Kumar Interacts With 500 BLOs
CEC Gyanesh Kumar interacts with 500 BLOs in Nalanda.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday visited Nalanda and interacted with around 500 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from five districts of Bihar. The interaction programme was held at the Sushma Swaraj Auditorium of Nalanda University, with BLOs from Nalanda, Gaya, Nawada, Jehanabad and Sheikhpura taking part. The discussions focused on strengthening the electoral process and ensuring transparency at the grassroots level.
During the interaction, Kumar discussed the responsibilities of BLOs in maintaining electoral rolls and facilitating the election process. He described Booth Level Officers as an important pillar of democracy and appreciated their work in supporting election-related activities. The use of technology and measures to improve transparency in elections were also among the issues discussed during the programme.
The CEC also discussed the concept of concurrent audit, under which representatives of political parties play different roles in monitoring the electoral process. Booth Level Agents scrutinise electoral rolls, Polling Agents monitor the voting process and Counting Agents oversee the counting process. Kumar emphasised the importance of these mechanisms in maintaining transparency and strengthening confidence in the electoral system.

Kumar thanked the BLOs for their contribution and praised the work carried out by election officials in Bihar. He described their efforts as an example that could be followed beyond the state. The interaction provided an opportunity for the Chief Election Commissioner to discuss practical aspects of electoral roll management and election administration directly with officials working at the booth level.
Before attending the BLO interaction, Kumar visited the ancient Nalanda University site and the Hiuen Tsang Memorial Hall. He expressed pride at visiting the historic location and noted that the remains of Nalanda provide a glimpse into the sophistication and advancement of Indian civilisation thousands of years ago. He was accorded a Guard of Honour on reaching Nalanda University.
Nalanda District Magistrate Udita Singh and Nalanda University Vice-Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi welcomed the Chief Election Commissioner during his visit. Kumar had earlier visited Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly election, when he spent two days in the state to assess the Special Intensive Revision process. His latest visit included both the review of electoral work and a visit to one of India’s important historical sites.
