Shocking Discovery in Nagpur Violence! Bangladeshi Links Uncovered

Nagpur Violence: Maharashtra Cyber Targets Provocative Online Content, Uncovers Bangladeshi Links

In the wake of the violent unrest that gripped Nagpur on March 17, Maharashtra Cyber has launched a robust crackdown on social media accounts spreading inflammatory material, identifying over 140 provocative posts and videos across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube.

Amid the investigation, authorities have uncovered a startling international dimension, flagging a Facebook account operated from Bangladesh that threatened to escalate riots in the city.

The violence, which erupted Monday evening following rumors of a ‘chadar’ with holy inscriptions being burned during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protest against Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, left 33 police personnel injured and caused widespread property damage. The Maharashtra Cyber, working with Nagpur City Cyber Police, pinpointed content designed to inflame religious sentiments and deepen communal divides, issuing notices under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act, 2000, for immediate takedowns.

A senior official from the Cyber Department stated that a Bangladeshi account had posted warnings of “bigger riots” ahead, dismissing Monday’s chaos as a “small incident.” This discovery has spurred a deeper probe into foreign interference, with police tracing IP addresses and collaborating with platforms to block such accounts. Over 97 fake or offensive posts have been linked to Bangladeshi origins, amplifying concerns of orchestrated destabilization.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, addressing the state Assembly, vowed strict action against those disrupting peace, calling Maharashtra a beacon of harmony. “No one will be spared,” he warned, as 18 special police teams hunt for 200 identified suspects, with efforts to name 1,000 more ongoing.

The Cyber Department emphasized its commitment to curbing digital misuse, promising legal repercussions for those stoking unrest as Nagpur’s curfew persists into its third day.
