N Rangasamy wins Thattanchavady; AINRC leads Puducherry trends.
Incumbent Puducherry Chief Minister and All India NR Congress (AINRC) leader N Rangasamy has won the Thattanchavady assembly constituency, securing victory in the latest vote count held on May 4. He defeated his nearest rival by a margin of 4,441 votes, reinforcing his party’s position in the Union Territory’s ongoing electoral outcome.
Rangasamy secured a total of 10,024 votes in the constituency. His closest competitor, E Vinayagam of Neyam Makkal Kazhagam, received 5,583 votes. Independent candidate K. Sethu (Sethuselvam) followed with 3,984 votes, while veteran Indian National Congress leader Ve Vaithilingam polled 2,990 votes, trailing significantly behind the winner.
According to Election Commission trends after the seventh round of counting, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was leading in Puducherry, with the AINRC winning four seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing one seat. The counting process reflected early consolidation of support for the ruling alliance in the Union Territory.

In the Thattanchavady constituency, the vote distribution highlighted a multi-cornered contest, though Rangasamy maintained a clear lead throughout the counting process. The margin of victory—4,441 votes—underscored his continued electoral strength in the region, despite competition from both party-affiliated and independent candidates.
N Rangasamy, one of Puducherry’s most prominent political figures, has served multiple terms as Chief Minister. He has held the position since May 2021 and previously served from 2001 to 2008 and again from 2011 to 2016. He founded the AINRC in 2011 after breaking away from the Indian National Congress, marking a significant shift in his long political career.
