Mysterious Blast Sound Sparks Panic in Nashik

Sukhoi jet’s sonic boom rattles Nashik’s Dindori.

A deafening “blast-like” sound reverberated across Nashik’s Dindori area on Thursday morning at 11:20 AM, sending residents into a frenzy and shattering window panes in several homes within a 25-kilometer radius. The alarming noise, initially mistaken for an explosion, prompted widespread panic until Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil clarified it was caused by a Sukhoi fighter jet in flight.

After consultations with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) officials, Patil confirmed the sound was a sonic boom produced by the jet’s high-speed maneuvers. “Citizens need not panic. No untoward incident has occurred,” he reassured, urging calm. The Sukhoi, known for its thunderous roar and intense acoustic effects like whines or screams, likely generated the disruptive sound during routine operations, though specific details about the flight were not disclosed.

Dindori Tehsildar Mukesh Kamble has directed talathis to investigate potential property damage, particularly to windows reported cracked by eyewitnesses. As of now, the district administration has received no confirmed reports of losses, but assessments are ongoing to ensure no further impact. The incident has sparked curiosity about military flight activities in the region, with residents calling for better communication to avoid future scares.

This event underscores the powerful presence of fighter jets, whose sonic booms can mimic explosions, catching communities off guard. Authorities have emphasized vigilance and coordination with HAL to prevent similar incidents from fueling unnecessary alarm in Nashik’s rural heartland.
