Muzaffarpur Police Raid Illegal LPG Refilling Operation; FIR Registered

Muzaffarpur police seize tanker, vehicles in illegal LPG racket bust.

Police in Muzaffarpur district have dismantled an organised gang involved in illegal LPG refilling and black marketing, exposing a dangerous network exploiting the ongoing gas shortage in the region. The crackdown was carried out following intelligence inputs about illicit operations in the Nariyar area under Motipur police station limits.

The operation, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Suchitra Kumari and supported by teams from Kanti and Motipur stations, was conducted on Monday night. Although the accused managed to flee during the raid, authorities seized a substantial cache of materials used in the illegal operation.

Recovered items included a fully loaded LPG tanker with a Nepalese registration number, a Bolero pickup van filled with cylinders, an e-rickshaw used for distribution, multiple gas-refilling instruments, and numerous filled and empty LPG cylinders. DSP Kumari confirmed that an FIR has been registered and further action is underway.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the gang was illegally transferring LPG from tankers into smaller cylinders at secluded locations, taking advantage of the shortage. Officials warned that such operations are extremely hazardous, with gas being handled without safety protocols, posing serious risks to public safety.

Authorities suspect potential cross-border links with Nepal, due to the registration of the seized tanker, and a detailed probe is underway to uncover the full extent of the racket and identify all involved individuals. Police have intensified surveillance across the region to prevent further illicit activity, and the absconding accused are expected to be apprehended soon.

Local residents have welcomed the action, citing hardships caused by the LPG shortage. Authorities reiterated that illegal gas refilling is not only unlawful but also poses a grave threat to human life, emphasizing that strict measures will continue to ensure consumer safety and prevent further black-market operations.
