Musi Riverfront Redevelopment: CM Revanth Reddy Promises Rehabilitation and Modern Infrastructure

Telangana CM assures rehabilitation for all displaced by Musi Riverfront project and unveils major infrastructure plans.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday assured that all families displaced by the Musi Riverfront development project will receive full rehabilitation. Speaking in the Legislative Council, he emphasized that the government will not leave anyone living alongside the Musi River homeless and urged political parties to refrain from spreading misinformation about the project.

The Chief Minister outlined plans to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, including IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, to oversee the Musi Rejuvenation Project. He also invited suggestions from opposition parties, noting that the sub-committee would serve as a platform for collaborative input.

Revanth Reddy criticized the previous BRS government for abandoning the Musi project and refuted claims by Sircilla MLA K.T. Rama Rao regarding the establishment of the Musi River Development Corporation. He highlighted government initiatives such as clearing footpath encroachments, providing designated spaces for street vendors, and constructing a multi-level parking facility near KBR Park. Work on elevated corridors along the Nalgonda and Vijayawada routes is also ongoing.

The CM revealed that the government secured permission from the Airports Authority of India to develop an underpass beneath the Begumpet Airport runway—the first of its kind in India—to ease traffic flow. He also discussed plans for Metro rail expansion, improvements at Secunderabad and Cherlapally railway stations, and relocating polluting industries outside the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to make Hyderabad more livable.

Reddy highlighted Telangana’s broader development vision, including Telangana Rising 2047 and the growth of the PURE, CURE, and RARE regions, along with a proposed industrial corridor spanning 10,000 square kilometres. He stressed the need to address rising traffic, air pollution, and civic challenges while preserving Hyderabad’s historical landmarks, including the Charminar, Gulzar Houz, and the Legislative Council building.

Finally, the CM detailed plans for an elevated corridor running 40 kilometres along the Musi River from Gandipet to Gourelli, aimed at reducing travel time across the city. He also announced land reclassification from industrial to multi-use zones and introduced the HILT policy to prevent Hyderabad from experiencing air pollution levels comparable to Delhi, reflecting the government’s focus on sustainable urban growth and enhanced quality of life for residents.
