In a heartfelt post on X, President Murmu extended warm greetings to Indians worldwide, emphasizing the festival’s role in fostering harmony and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. “Raksha Bandhan enhances the spirit of cooperation and gives us an opportunity to uphold moral values,” she wrote, urging citizens to pledge toward a prosperous India where women feel safe and empowered to contribute to national development.
Prime Minister Modi echoed these sentiments, sharing on X, “Best wishes on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan,” highlighting the festival’s significance in strengthening sibling bonds. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called it a “sacred festival” dedicated to love and commitment, praying for joy and enthusiasm in every home. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh added depth, noting, “This festival is not just about the rakhi thread but a commitment to honor, protect, and ensure our sisters’ happiness.” External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also extended warm wishes, reinforcing the festival’s universal appeal.
Rooted in centuries-old traditions and referenced in Hindu texts, Raksha Bandhan involves sisters tying a rakhi on their brothers’ wrists, symbolizing a vow of protection. Brothers, in return, offer gifts and pledge to safeguard their sisters. Celebrated on Shravan Purnima, the festival reflects India’s cultural ethos of respect and care, inspiring a renewed commitment to gender equality and societal harmony.
