Mumbai’s Elevated Nature Trail Closed Temporarily After Tree Fall At Malabar Hill

Mumbai’s Malabar Hill Elevated Nature Trail closed indefinitely after tree fall triggers safety review.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has temporarily shut down the Elevated Nature Trail at Malabar Hill in Mumbai after a tree fall incident on Friday raised safety concerns. The decision comes as civic authorities begin detailed inspections and clearance work to assess potential risks along the popular walkway.

According to the BMC, public access to the trail will remain suspended until further notice. The civic body issued an update on social media confirming the closure and stated that teams are currently examining the affected section to ensure the area is safe for visitors before reopening.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred ahead of the full onset of the monsoon season in Mumbai. The city typically experiences an increase in tree falls during this period due to strong winds, heavy rainfall, and softened soil conditions that make trees more vulnerable to uprooting.

The closure is notable because the BMC had already implemented extensive pre-monsoon safety measures around the attraction. These included planned pruning of overhanging branches, removal of hazardous vegetation, and regular monitoring of the surrounding forest area to reduce the likelihood of such incidents during the rainy season.

Opened to the public in March 2025, the Elevated Nature Trail has quickly become one of Mumbai’s key urban eco-tourism destinations. Built across a 485-metre stretch of urban forest on Malabar Hill, the walkway offers views of the Arabian Sea and the city skyline, and was inspired by Singapore’s elevated nature walk concepts. Entry is managed through timed slots to protect the ecological balance of the area.

Civic officials are expected to complete a full structural and environmental safety review before deciding on reopening the trail. Meanwhile, visitors who had booked entry slots have been advised to follow official BMC updates for rescheduling and further announcements regarding restoration of services.
