Mumbai Woman Allegedly Offers Domestic Worker Rs 3 Lakh In Daughter-In-Law Murder Plot

Mumbai Woman Accused In Daughter-In-Law Murder Plot.

A 65-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly plotting the murder of her daughter-in-law and paying Rs 3 lakh to a domestic worker and the worker's family to help carry out the killing in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area, police said. The case came to light after the victim's family raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death, which had initially been presented as an accidental fall in the bathroom. The victim, identified as Sapna Ganji, was found dead at her home in Ghatkopar last week. According to the police, the accused mother-in-law, identified as Dhanalakshmi Ganji, allegedly arranged for her daughter-in-law to be killed and paid the domestic worker and members of the worker's family Rs 3 lakh for their involvement. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the alleged conspiracy and the roles of those who were reportedly involved.

Police said an attempt was subsequently made to conceal the alleged killing and make the death appear accidental. Around midnight, Sapna's father-in-law reportedly contacted her father and told him that she had fallen in the bathroom and suffered a serious head injury. The family was given the impression that Sapna had met with an accident inside the house. When Sapna's father reached the hospital, doctors had already declared her dead. However, he reportedly noticed injuries on her body that raised questions about the version of events given to the family. He observed a deep injury on her head, along with marks of assault on her face, neck and shoulders. The injuries prompted him to suspect that his daughter may have been assaulted rather than dying as a result of an accidental fall.

The suspicions were subsequently brought to the attention of the police, who began examining the circumstances of Sapna's death. Investigators allegedly found indications that the incident had been staged to make it appear as though she had suffered a fatal accident. The alleged payment of Rs 3 lakh to the domestic worker and the worker's family became a key part of the police investigation into the suspected murder conspiracy. Dhanalakshmi Ganji was subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged plot. Police are also investigating the domestic worker and other family members who were allegedly paid to assist in the crime. Their precise roles and the sequence of events leading to Sapna's death are expected to form a central part of the investigation.

The case has also brought attention to the importance of forensic examination when the circumstances surrounding a death appear inconsistent with an initial explanation. In this instance, the injuries observed by Sapna's father reportedly raised concerns that could not be explained simply by the account of an accidental bathroom fall. Investigators are expected to rely on medical and forensic evidence, along with statements and other evidence, to establish what happened. According to the police account, the alleged attempt to present the death as an accident was intended to prevent suspicion and conceal the circumstances of Sapna's death. The investigation will now focus on establishing the motive behind the alleged murder, the extent of the accused woman's involvement and whether the alleged payment was made as described.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the arrested individuals will be tested through the legal process. Police will also have to establish the individual roles of those allegedly involved in the killing and subsequent attempt to conceal evidence. The death of Sapna Ganji has therefore turned from an alleged household accident into a suspected murder case after her father's concerns about her injuries prompted further scrutiny. The arrest of her 65-year-old mother-in-law and the alleged Rs 3 lakh payment to a househelp and family members have emerged as key elements of the investigation.
