Mumbai University Winter Exams 2025 Postponed Again Due to Zilla Parishad Polls
Exams rescheduled for the second time; now set for mid-to-late February 2026.
Mumbai University has announced yet another revision to its Winter 2025 examination schedule, this time due to the upcoming Maharashtra Zilla Parishad elections. The university issued an official circular on January 20, 2026, directing all affiliated colleges, department heads, and sub-centre directors to immediately notify students and staff of the changes. This marks the second postponement for many papers—first delayed because of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, and now further shifted due to the Zilla Parishad polls.
The rescheduling affects examinations originally planned for mid-January 2026. According to the university’s notification, papers scheduled for January 14 have been moved to February 17, January 15 to February 18, and January 16 to February 20. The timings of all exams remain unchanged from the original plan, ensuring no disruption to the daily schedule structure.
Additionally, examinations that were previously set for February 7, 2026 (under the first revision), have now been deferred to February 21, 2026, to accommodate the election process. The university emphasized that these adjustments are necessary to avoid any conflict with polling duties, election-related arrangements, and the deployment of staff who may be involved in electoral responsibilities.

Students across various faculties in Mumbai University’s affiliated colleges are advised to check the official website or contact their respective colleges for the complete revised timetable. The repeated changes have caused inconvenience for examinees, many of whom had already adjusted their preparation and travel plans around the earlier dates. University authorities have urged quick dissemination of the updated information to minimize confusion.
This development highlights the recurring impact of local body elections on academic calendars in Maharashtra, prompting calls from some quarters for better coordination between election authorities and educational institutions in the future.
