Mumbai to See Cloudy Skies, Thundershowers and High Tide Saturday
Mumbai to see thundershowers and high tide on Saturday.
Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to witness generally cloudy skies with occasional light to moderate rain or thundershowers on Saturday, according to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While rainfall over the past 24 hours remained relatively light in most parts of the city, weather officials have advised residents to remain prepared for intermittent showers during the day. Authorities have also urged caution along the coastline as a high tide is expected during the afternoon.
Rainfall data released by civic authorities showed varying precipitation levels across different parts of Mumbai between 8 a.m. on July 17 and 8 a.m. on July 18. The island city recorded an average rainfall of 1.67 mm, while the eastern suburbs received significantly higher rainfall of 15.27 mm. The western suburbs registered 7.31 mm during the same period, indicating uneven rainfall distribution across the metropolitan region despite generally moderate monsoon activity.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the combined water stock in the seven reservoirs supplying drinking water to Mumbai had reached 50.77 per cent of total capacity as of 6 a.m. on Saturday. Rainfall received over the previous 24 hours resulted in an increase of 0.98 percentage points in reservoir storage levels, providing a further boost to the city's water reserves as the southwest monsoon continues.

Along with the rainfall forecast, authorities have advised residents living near coastal and low-lying areas to remain vigilant due to tidal activity. A high tide of 4.66 metres is expected at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, while another high tide measuring 4.02 metres is forecast for 3.09 a.m. on Sunday, July 19. Officials have warned that if heavy rainfall coincides with the afternoon high tide, temporary waterlogging could occur in vulnerable locations.
Earlier in the day, a low tide of 0.81 metres was recorded at 8.07 a.m., while the next low tide is expected at 9.09 p.m. with a height of 1.04 metres. Civic agencies continue to monitor weather and tidal conditions closely, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season when heavy rain combined with high tides can affect traffic movement and drainage systems in parts of the city.
The IMD has advised residents to stay updated with official weather bulletins and exercise caution while travelling during periods of rainfall. Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance, especially in areas prone to waterlogging, while people visiting beaches and coastal stretches have been urged to follow safety advisories issued by local authorities. With cloudy conditions expected to persist through the day, Mumbai is likely to experience typical monsoon weather accompanied by intermittent showers and elevated tidal activity.
