Mumbai Police Nab Mephedrone Kingpin Deported from UAE
Kubbawala Mustafa faces charges in Rs 252 crore drug case.
Kubbawala Mustafa, a fugitive accused of running a synthetic drug operation, was deported from the UAE to India on Friday in a coordinated effort by the CBI, Interpol, and Mumbai Police. Mustafa, linked to a Sangli-based facility producing 126.141 kg of mephedrone (valued at Rs 252 crore), was escorted by a four-member Mumbai Police team to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, arriving at 1 AM. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch took him into custody for further investigation.
The CBI’s International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU), working with NCB-Abu Dhabi, tracked Mustafa in the UAE after Interpol issued a Red Notice on November 25, 2024, at Mumbai Police’s request. A chargesheet was filed, and a special court issued an open-dated arrest warrant. Mustafa allegedly supplied raw materials from Ahmedabad, manufacturing high-quality mephedrone for distribution in Gujarat’s drug syndicate. The case, registered under FIR No. 67/2024 at Kurla Police Station, exposed his role in remotely managing the Sangli factory. The CBI, as India’s Interpol hub, has facilitated the return of over 100 fugitives in recent years via BHARATPOL.
