Maharashtra CM assures film celebrities’ safety; 13 arrested in Shetty attack.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday urged film celebrities in Mumbai not to be intimidated following the recent attack on the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty. Speaking in the Legislative Council during question hour, CM Fadnavis assured that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain law and order and that the accused would be apprehended.
“The person accused in this incident is Shubham Lonkar, who is reportedly working as an operative for the Bishnoi gang. His brother has already been arrested, and Shubham, currently outside the country, will also be arrested soon,” the Chief Minister stated.
He further appealed to celebrities, saying, “Do not get scared. We will not let Mumbai descend into gang wars.” Additional security has been provided to Shetty, and preventive measures, including police patrolling and checkpoints, have been intensified in sensitive areas.

The attack occurred on the night of February 1, when an unidentified individual fired a weapon resembling a pistol at Shetty Tower, Rohit Shetty’s residence. A total of five rounds were fired, with one bullet hitting the gallery glass. CCTV footage, the firearm, involved vehicles, and mobile phones with SIM cards were seized during the investigation.
According to CM Fadnavis, 13 accused have been arrested so far. Twelve of them are in judicial custody under the orders of the Special MCOCA Court, while one remains in police custody. Efforts are ongoing to locate three other suspects linked to the case.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that Maharashtra has requested the custody of Anmol Bishnoi, currently held by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), who is wanted in multiple cases in Mumbai. Once the NIA completes its custody period, state authorities will take over for further investigation.
Fadnavis highlighted that Shubham Lonkar, a native of Akola district, had previously threatened both Congress and BJP MLAs, often calling from abroad. Authorities have vowed to bring him to justice. Preventive drives against habitual criminals are ongoing to ensure the safety of citizens and public figures across the city.
