Mumbai Fire Scare: Blaze Erupts at South Mumbai Cloth Shop, No Injuries Reported

Fire breaks out in Memonwada; second blaze in city within hours.

A fire broke out on Monday morning at a cloth shop in South Mumbai’s Memonwada area, sparking panic in the densely populated locality. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, and the blaze was swiftly brought under control by the city’s fire brigade.

According to civic officials, the fire erupted around 10:51 am at a shop located on Chakala Street in Memonwada. Multiple fire engines were rushed to the scene as thick smoke billowed from the building. Firefighters acted quickly to contain the flames before they could spread to nearby structures. The blaze was confined mainly to clothes and other items stored in the shop.

Authorities confirmed that the incident did not cause any injuries or loss of life. “No one was harmed, and the fire was contained promptly,” said a civic official, adding that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Primary reports suggest that an electrical short circuit might be a possible reason, though officials have yet to confirm.

This marks Mumbai’s second fire-related incident of the day. Earlier on Monday, a major fire broke out at a corporate park in the Chembur area, located in the city’s eastern suburbs. That blaze too was brought under control without any reported injuries, thanks to swift emergency response efforts.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade has urged commercial establishments to conduct routine safety checks and ensure that fire prevention equipment remains functional. With two incidents in a single day, civic authorities are expected to review fire safety measures in commercial zones across the city.
