Mumbai Airport, Taj Hotel Receive Bomb Threats Citing Afzal Guru
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Taj Mahal Palace Hotel received bomb threat emails on Saturday, prompting heightened security measures.
The email, sent to Mumbai Airport Police, referenced the 2013 execution of Afzal Guru, convicted for the 2001 Parliament attack, and warned of bombings at both locations in retaliation for his hanging. It also mentioned S. Shankar, another executed convict.
Mumbai Police launched an investigation, deploying bomb detection and disposal squads to both sites. No explosives have been found, and search operations continue.

Security has been intensified at the airport and hotel, key targets during the 2008 26/11 attacks. The email’s origin is under investigation, with an FIR filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
This follows a May 9 hoax threat to Tata Memorial Hospital. Authorities are treating the incident seriously due to the targets’ significance, despite a history of similar hoaxes, with over 70 reported at the airport in 2024. Further updates are pending.
