Mukund Krishna Suspended As UK Police Federation Head After Arrest on Suspicion of Fraud

Mukund Krishna suspended as UK Police Federation chief after arrest in corruption investigation.

Mukund Krishna, the Indian-origin Chief Executive of the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW), was suspended from his role following his arrest on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position in a City of London Police corruption probe. The 46-year-old leader, representing over 145,000 rank-and-file officers up to chief inspector rank, was detained alongside two other suspects linked to the organization on March 4, 2026.

Krishna, a former management consultant, joined PFEW in 2024 as its inaugural CEO, earning a reported £700,000+ annually in salary and bonuses—surpassing even the Metropolitan Police Commissioner's pay. He played a key role in stabilizing the federation's finances, negotiating a costly legal liability down from £110 million to £40 million after data breaches and tribunal losses.

The year-long investigation by the City of London Police's Domestic Corruption Unit targeted allegations of financial misconduct at PFEW's Leatherhead, Surrey headquarters. Raids hit properties in Surrey, Wales, Somerset, and London, with the federation confirming Krishna's immediate suspension pending the ongoing inquiry.

Prior controversies marked Krishna's tenure, including a High Court ruling against his suspension of elected officials over race comments and criticism for refusing to resign amid internal strife. Supporters credit him with reforms, but detractors highlighted leadership lapses in a body long plagued by reform calls.

PFEW, which advocates for officers' welfare and pay, stated full cooperation with authorities while avoiding further comment on the "live matter." Krishna's bail status remains undisclosed, with national board discussions looming on his future. Mukund Krishna, the suspended PFEW CEO, faces intense scrutiny in the unfolding corruption case. The scandal shocks the policing community, raising questions about oversight in officer representative bodies amid broader UK police misconduct probes.
