A tragic mudslide struck Simraungadh Municipality in Nepal’s Bara district, claiming the lives of two individuals and injuring six others. The incident occurred at 8:30 a.m. in the Madhesh province, when a group of people were digging near a pond to collect soil for household use, according to local police reports.
The victims, a 70-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, were buried alive under the sudden collapse of earth. Six others sustained injuries but were promptly rescued through the combined efforts of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel. The survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment for their injuries.
The mudslide underscores the risks associated with unstable terrain in Nepal, particularly during excavation activities in rural areas. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the mudslide, but such incidents are often linked to heavy rainfall or geological instability in the region.
