MP School Principal Suspended for Serving Republic Day Meal on Torn Paper to Students

MP school principal suspended for serving Republic Day mid-day meal on torn paper.

The in-charge principal of a government school in Bhatigavan village, Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, Sunil Kumar Tripathi, has been suspended following an incident in which students were served their Republic Day mid-day meal on torn notebook pages and scraps of paper. The decision came after a viral video of the event triggered widespread outrage.

According to an official notification by Rewa Divisional Commissioner B.S. Jamod, the incident occurred due to Tripathi’s negligence, which disrupted order at the school and tarnished the administration’s image. A show-cause notice had been issued to Tripathi on January 27, but he failed to respond within the stipulated time.

“The investigation revealed that during the Republic Day function, children were served food on paper in the presence of the acting principal, Sunil Kumar Tripathi. This highly deplorable incident occurred due to his negligence,” the notification stated. Tripathi, a high school teacher, was serving as the in-charge principal of the government school at the time.

Following the inquiry led by District Project Coordinator Vishnu Tripathi, the divisional commissioner approved the suspension. The administration has also directed education officials to strictly enforce mid-day meal guidelines across all schools to prevent any such lapses in the future.

The incident came to light after a video circulated on social media showing students being served halwa and puri on torn paper during the 77th Republic Day celebrations, sparking public criticism. Authorities emphasized that any neglect affecting children’s health or dignity would be met with strict action.

The Maihar district administration has reiterated the importance of adhering to proper mid-day meal protocols, highlighting that school officials are accountable for maintaining students’ safety and dignity during official events. The suspension serves as a warning against negligence in educational institutions.
