MP Government Introduces Chief Minister Sugam Bus Service For Women

MP launches women-focused bus service to improve safe travel.

The Madhya Pradesh government is set to launch the “Chief Minister Sugam Bus Service” as a women-centric public transport initiative, with the rollout planned around the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival to improve safe and reliable mobility for women across the state.

The scheme, formally named Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva, is designed to strengthen public transport access, particularly for women in rural and remote regions where limited connectivity has often forced dependence on unsafe or overcrowded private vehicles. The initiative is being positioned as a step toward ensuring dignified and secure travel options for female commuters.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced through his official social media handle that the service will be symbolically inaugurated during Raksha Bandhan, with a broader phased expansion planned thereafter. He said the programme is part of a larger effort to rebuild and modernise public transport infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh, alongside improvements in roads, electricity, and water supply.

According to officials, the scheme will initially focus on high-demand routes and will later expand across districts and neighbouring states. In the Indore region, operations under both the state’s transport initiative and the Centre’s PM e-Bus Seva are scheduled to begin from July, marking the first phase of implementation.

The Atal Indore City Transport Service Limited (AICTSL) will manage operations in the Indore division, where intercity, intracity, and interstate bus services are planned. The network is expected to include hundreds of routes connecting Madhya Pradesh with Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, along with city and suburban services.

Statewide, officials have identified more than a thousand routes under the broader transport expansion plan, with over 5,000 buses proposed across seven regions. The government said the initiative is expected to significantly improve connectivity, promote organised public transport, and enhance women’s safety and mobility, especially during festive occasions like Raksha Bandhan.
