MP CM Mohan Yadav Highlights Rise In Wheat Procurement, Attacks Congress Record
MP CM attacks Congress, highlights wheat procurement rise and reforms.
Mohan Yadav on Sunday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress, alleging that the party failed to support farmers during its decades-long rule in the state. Speaking at a public event in Indore after performing the “Bhoomi Poojan” of the first phase of the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor, he claimed that Congress governments over 55 years did not establish a proper wheat procurement system or meaningfully benefit farmers.
Yadav asserted that earlier administrations did not even purchase “a handful of grain” in a structured manner, contrasting it with his government’s procurement efforts. He said wheat procurement in Madhya Pradesh has increased significantly from around 75 lakh metric tons in the previous cycle to 100 lakh metric tons this year. He described this rise as evidence of a farmer-focused governance model aimed at strengthening rural incomes and agricultural stability.
The Chief Minister also drew a historical comparison in wheat pricing to highlight what he called long-term neglect of farmers. He said wheat prices remained extremely low for decades after 1956, rising only marginally over time, and were still around ₹400–₹500 per quintal in the early 2000s. In contrast, he stated that current procurement prices have reached ₹2,625 per quintal, crediting successive leaders, including former Chief Ministers such as Uma Bharti, Babulal Gaur, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with his own administration.

Yadav further announced additional incentives for farmers, including a ₹600 bonus for those cultivating a third crop such as urad (black gram). He reiterated the government’s commitment to increasing wheat procurement prices to ₹2,700 per quintal by 2028, adding that the target could be achieved earlier depending on fiscal conditions and procurement efficiency. He said these steps are intended to improve agricultural profitability and reduce farmers’ dependence on limited cropping cycles.
Beyond pricing reforms, the Chief Minister outlined broader agricultural and rural development initiatives, including expansion of dairy production and animal husbandry to diversify farmers’ income sources. He also announced a key reform in electricity supply for irrigation, promising daytime power for farmers after the monsoon season. He said this would help eliminate the risks and difficulties associated with nighttime farming, particularly during winter months and in difficult field conditions.
Positioning his government’s policies as farmer-centric, Yadav said the combined approach of higher procurement rates, subsidies, and infrastructure improvements reflects a long-term commitment to agricultural welfare. He added that these measures are aimed at transforming rural livelihoods and ensuring greater economic stability for farming communities across Madhya Pradesh.
