MP CM Launches Miyawaki Method Plantation Drive For Jabalpur
Miyawaki method promotes dense urban forest development.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday launched a major plantation drive at Dumna Nature Park in Jabalpur, aiming to plant 11 lakh saplings across 100 acres using the Miyawaki method. The initiative was described as a significant step towards environmental conservation and was carried out as part of a nationwide campaign inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to plant 25 crore saplings across the country.
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Yadav said the plantation drive would help strengthen the ecological identity of the Jabalpur region and support biodiversity conservation. He said the large-scale plantation had created a historic record for the area and would contribute towards protecting the natural environment while enhancing the green cover of the Jabalpur division.
The plantation has been carried out using the Miyawaki technique, a Japanese afforestation method known for creating dense forests in a shorter period compared to traditional plantation practices. While conventional methods generally involve planting around 400 saplings per acre, the Miyawaki approach allows thousands of saplings to be planted in the same area, helping accelerate forest growth and improve biodiversity.

During the programme, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a borewell recharge structure at Dumna under the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign. Highlighting the importance of water conservation amid changing climatic conditions, Yadav stressed the need for rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge systems and sustainable water management practices to address possible future water shortages.
Apart from environmental initiatives, Yadav announced several development projects for Jabalpur, stating that efforts would be made to transform the city into a metropolitan city within a year. He also announced plans for setting up a furniture cluster to boost industries and employment opportunities, along with upgrading the state’s Medical University in Jabalpur on the lines of AIIMS.
The Chief Minister further announced the construction of a modern world-class zoo near Madan Mahal and plans to establish Sandipani Vidyalayas in all Assembly constituencies of the district. He said these initiatives were aimed at strengthening Jabalpur’s infrastructure, education sector and overall development while complementing the region’s environmental conservation efforts.
