MP Car Crash: Sub-Inspector’s Body Recovered; Policewoman Missing

Rescue teams recover sub-inspector; search for missing constable continues after Ujjain river crash incident

Rescue operations in Ujjain district recovered the body of sub-inspector Madan Lal, 57, from the swollen Kshipra River on Monday, nearly 45 hours after a car carrying three police officials plunged into the river from a bridge lacking railings. The incident occurred around 9 pm on Saturday during heavy rains, which have exacerbated river conditions across the region.

Earlier, the body of station house officer Ashok Sharma, 58, was found on Sunday. Constable Aarti Pal, approximately 30 years old, remains missing, according to Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma. The officials from Unhel police station were en route to investigate a missing person's case when the accident happened, with Pal reportedly driving at the time.

Search efforts involved over 50 rescuers, including 25 from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, and 10 local divers. Authorities deployed mechanized boats, drones, and measures like closing a downstream dam to reduce water flow. However, strong currents have complicated the operation, which was paused at 8 pm Monday due to darkness and is set to resume at 6 am Tuesday.
