Mother Delivers Child at Ambala Railway Station, Both Safe Thanks to Quick Railway Rescue

In an extraordinary turn of events, a woman travelling on the Jammu-Kanpur Express delivered a healthy baby girl at Ambala Cantonment Railway Station on Friday night, October 3, 2025, after unexpectedly going into labour mid-journey. The incident, reported by railway officials on Saturday, highlighted the quick response and coordination of the Railway Police Force and medical professionals, who ensured the safety of both mother and newborn. The woman, accompanied by her husband, was en route from Jammu Tawi to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh when she began experiencing severe labour pains. The couple was travelling in a general coach of the train when a fellow passenger alerted Railway Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Hans Raj, who was on duty at Ambala Cantonment station. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, ASI Hans Raj, along with female constable Jyoti, promptly boarded the train during its scheduled stop to assist the woman, whose condition was rapidly deteriorating.

With the woman in acute distress, the railway police team acted swiftly, contacting the emergency helpline '112' to summon medical assistance. The woman and her husband were carefully helped off the train and brought to a secure area at the station. A doctor from a nearby hospital arrived promptly, and under the supervision of medical professionals and female police personnel, the woman successfully gave birth to a healthy baby girl right at the railway station. The presence of trained personnel and the rapid response ensured the delivery proceeded without complications.
