Monsoon Session: Parliament Braces for Stormy Session on Day Two

Bihar voter list row, Air India crash to dominate debates.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin its second day on July 22, 2025, with intense debates anticipated over the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and the tragic Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has submitted a Suspension of Business Notice under Rule 267, calling for an urgent discussion on alleged irregularities in Bihar’s voter list revision, which opposition parties claim is an attempt to suppress votes ahead of the state’s elections.

The session’s opening day on July 21 was tumultuous, with the Congress-led INDIA bloc demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory strike following the Pahalgam terror attack. The opposition also pressed Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for clarity on the ongoing investigation into the June 12 Air India crash, which claimed 260 lives.

With the INDIA bloc alleging electoral manipulation in Bihar and seeking accountability for the aviation disaster, the government is under pressure. The session, scheduled to run until August 21 with 21 sittings, is expected to see further clashes as opposition MPs demand transparency and justice.
