Monsoon Session: Kharge Slams Govt on Pahalgam, Trump’s Ceasefire Claims

Monsoon Session 2025 sparks heated debates on security, elections.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament 2025 kicked off on July 21 with a fiery start, as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge confronted the Centre in the Rajya Sabha over the Pahalgam terror attack and U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The Lok Sabha, meanwhile, was adjourned until noon amid a ruckus caused by Opposition MPs demanding discussions on Operation Sindoor and alleged electoral irregularities in Bihar.

Kharge accused the government of dodging accountability, stating, “The silence on the Pahalgam attack and Trump’s 24 claims of mediating a ceasefire raises serious questions.” BJP President JP Nadda countered, assuring a full debate on Operation Sindoor, emphasizing the government’s openness to discuss national security issues. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated this stance, saying, “We are ready to discuss Operation Sindoor and other matters of national importance within parliamentary rules.”

The Opposition, led by Congress MPs like Gaurav Gogoi and Pramod Tiwari, also criticized the government’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar, alleging it threatens marginalized communities’ voting rights. Tiwari further slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign tour during the session, accusing him of neglecting domestic responsibilities.
