Monsoon Session: Jaishankar Rejects Third-Party Mediation, Criticizes Pakistan's Stance

India halts Operation Sindoor ceasefire without mediation.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar firmly stated in the Rajya Sabha that no third party, including the US, mediated the ceasefire with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Refuting Opposition claims of US President Donald Trump’s involvement, Jaishankar clarified no calls occurred between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trump from April 22 to June 16.

Addressing a special discussion, Jaishankar emphasized that the ceasefire was unrelated to trade pressures, countering Trump’s alleged claims of mediation. He reiterated India’s zero-tolerance stance on cross-border terrorism, stating Operation Sindoor was a direct response to Pakistan’s actions, particularly the “unacceptable” Pahalgam terror attack by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Jaishankar justified suspending the Indus Water Treaty, declaring, “Blood and water will not flow together,” and criticized past policies under Jawaharlal Nehru as appeasement. He credited the Modi government for correcting historical errors and elevating terrorism as a global issue through sustained diplomatic efforts.

Highlighting India’s influence, Jaishankar noted the country’s success in pressuring Pakistan via the Financial Action Task Force and securing UN recognition of TRF’s ties to Lashkar-e-Taiba, despite India’s non-membership in the UN Security Council. He vowed India would continue responding decisively to any future attacks by Pakistan.
