Monsoon Mayhem Unleashes Chaos: 5 Dead, Highways Shut as Flash Floods Devastate Himachal’s Mandi and North India!

Five dead as rains cause flash floods in Mandi, waterlogging in Delhi, and highway closures in north India.

Heavy rains battered north India on July 29, 2025, claiming five lives and causing widespread disruption, with Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district reeling from catastrophic flash floods triggered by a cloudburst. The deluge killed three people, including a mother and son, buried over 20 vehicles, and damaged homes in areas like Jail Road, Saini Mohalla, and Zonal Hospital. One woman remains missing, with 15-20 people rescued, according to Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan.

The NDRF, police, and home guards are clearing debris, while 269 roads, including three national highways (NH-21, NH-154, NH-70), remain blocked, stranding tourists between Mandi and Manali.

Delhi faced severe waterlogging and traffic chaos after heavy showers, with a tragic wall collapse in Civil Lines killing a 40-year-old woman, Meera, and her son Ganpath. Despite PWD Minister Parvesh Verma’s claims of improved drainage, waterlogging persisted at Minto Bridge.

Rajasthan saw flood-like conditions, with rivers overflowing in Kota, Bundi, and Jhalawar, submerging villages and closing the Baran-Jhalawar highway. Schools shut in 14 districts as the state recorded 85% excess rainfall.

Punjab and Haryana also faced heavy downpours, with Gurdaspur receiving 96.7 mm of rain.
