PM Modi’s Maldives Visit Sparks Major Partnership Boost
India commits to deeper ties, supports Maldives’ growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a two-day visit to the Maldives, expressed India’s commitment to strengthening ties with the island nation. Meeting Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed, Modi emphasized collaboration in infrastructure, technology, climate change, and energy. “Our partnership benefits both our peoples, and we look forward to deepening it,” he shared on X.
Modi also engaged with Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People’s Majlis, highlighting the strong parliamentary ties between India and the Maldives. He welcomed the formation of the India-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group in the 20th Majlis, reinforcing India’s dedication to capacity building.
In a meeting with former President Mohamed Nasheed, Modi praised his advocacy for India-Maldives friendship. “The Maldives remains a key pillar of our ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Mahasagar vision,” he said. Nasheed, who served as president from 2008 to 2012, has long championed bilateral ties.

On Friday, Modi held talks with President Mohamed Muizzu, announcing a Rs 4,850 crore line of credit to support the Maldives’ development. India’s focus on capacity building and developmental cooperation underscores its role as a steadfast partner, fostering growth and collaboration in the region.
