Modi Urges Youth to Innovate for Self-Reliant India

Modi’s Call: Youth to Power India’s Innovation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi challenged India’s youth to drive self-reliance by developing indigenous innovations, from jet engines for fighter planes to homegrown social media platforms. Emphasizing Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) as the cornerstone of a Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047, Modi called on young scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to harness their talents to reduce India’s dependence on foreign technology and resources.

Modi urged the creation of Made-in-India jet engines for fighter jets like the HAL Tejas, citing delays in engine supplies from U.S.-based GE Aerospace as a reminder of the need for self-sufficiency. “Should the jet engine for our Made-in-India fighter jets be ours or not?” he asked, rallying youth to take up this challenge. He also pushed for indigenous advancements in pharmaceuticals, urging research into cost-effective medicines and patents to bolster global healthcare contributions.

Highlighting India’s startup ecosystem, Modi praised over 300 space sector startups and thousands of youth driving innovation. He called for homegrown fertilizers to support farmers without harming the environment and challenged the private sector to develop domestic social media platforms to retain India’s wealth and data sovereignty. “Why should we depend on others?” he asked, citing the success of India’s COVID-19 vaccine and CoWIN platform as proof of the youth’s potential.

The speech included major announcements: a task force for next-generation reforms, GST reforms for tax relief, a National Deepwater Exploration Mission for energy independence, and the “Sudarshan Chakra” defense system by 2035, designed for precise, indigenous security solutions. Modi likened its targeted approach to Lord Krishna’s mythical weapon, emphasizing that research, development, and manufacturing must be driven by Indian talent.

Posts on X echoed Modi’s call, with users lauding his vision for youth-led innovation, though some expressed skepticism about implementation timelines. As India aims for self-reliance, Modi’s challenge positions the youth as the vanguard of a transformative future.
