Modi Lands in Argentina to Boost Strategic Ties
Modi’s trip marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Argentina in nearly six decades.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Buenos Aires for a landmark two-day visit aimed at deepening India’s partnership with Argentina. Greeted with a ceremonial welcome at Ezeiza International Airport on Friday evening, Modi’s trip marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Argentina in nearly six decades.
This visit, the third stop in Modi’s five-nation tour, follows his 2018 trip for the G20 Summit. During his stay, Modi will engage in high-level talks with President Javier Milei to strengthen cooperation in critical sectors such as defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the visit will “further deepen the multifaceted strategic partnership” between the two nations.
In a pre-departure statement, Modi highlighted Argentina’s role as a vital economic partner in Latin America and a key G20 collaborator. “I look forward to advancing our mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment,” he said, referencing his prior meeting with Milei last year.

The visit comes on the heels of Modi’s successful two-day trip to Trinidad and Tobago, where he was honored with ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago,’ becoming the first foreign leader to receive the Caribbean nation’s highest civilian award. The two countries also signed six agreements to bolster bilateral ties.
Following Argentina, Modi’s itinerary includes Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit and a state visit, before concluding his tour in Namibia. This whirlwind diplomatic mission underscores India’s growing global influence and commitment to forging stronger international partnerships.
