MK Stalin Criticizes Election Commission Amid Bihar Results, Urges for Stronger Impartiality

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin questions Election Commission's credibility despite congratulating NDA’s Bihar win.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin extended his congratulations to Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar for the National Democratic Alliance’s decisive victory in the Bihar assembly elections held in 2025. However, Stalin did not hold back from criticizing the Election Commission of India (ECI), stating that the election results do not erase the alleged misdeeds and reckless conduct of the commission during the polls.

In a post on social media platform X, Stalin expressed deep concern over the declining reputation of the ECI, calling for citizens to have a stronger and impartial election body whose management of elections inspires confidence even among losing parties. He said, "The reputation of the ECI is at its lowest point. The citizens of this country deserve a stronger and more impartial Election Commission, whose conduct of polls should inspire confidence even among those who do not win."

Stalin also acknowledged the efforts of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and the INDIA bloc for their hard-fought campaign despite their electoral setback in Bihar. He emphasized that election outcomes reflect social coalitions, welfare delivery, and strategic planning, and expressed confidence in the INDIA bloc's ability to learn and plan better for future challenges.

The remarks come as Tamil Nadu prepares for its own assembly elections next year, amid ongoing debates over the Centre’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls. While the ruling DMK and its allies oppose the exercise, labeling it suspicious, the opposition AIADMK supports the revision, viewing it as necessary to eliminate fake voters.

Minister Govi Chezhian of Tamil Nadu dismissed allegations of vote theft linked to the Bihar election as conspiracy theories that will not succeed in their state. Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Edappadi Palaniswami also endorsed SIR, criticizing the INDIA bloc for attributing its Bihar losses to conspiracies rather than accepting electoral outcomes.
