Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh on Friday highlighted the state’s strategic location along India’s borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, calling it vital for advancing India’s Act East Policy amid a changing global landscape. His remarks came during the celebrations of Mizoram Statehood Day.

He noted that this has boosted passenger convenience, goods transport, affordability, and tourism, which grew 139.5% year-on-year.

The Governor also mentioned the flagging off of the Silchar-Sairang direct passenger train service in February 2026, further enhancing regional connectivity. He praised Mizoram’s achievements since attaining statehood on February 20, 1987, highlighting the state’s progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and sustainable development while preserving its rich cultural heritage.

He also praised Aizawl’s successful hosting of the second Aizawl International Half Marathon, promoting sports tourism.

Concluding his address, the Governor lauded Mizoram’s enduring peace, natural beauty, vibrant culture, societal harmony, and exemplary public behavior, including the state’s “no honking” traffic etiquette and excellent air quality.
