Mizoram Launches 10 High-Tech Mobile Forensic Vehicles
Mizoram boosts crime-solving with cutting-edge mobile forensic vehicles.
Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga launched 10 state-of-the-art mobile forensic vehicles on Monday, marking a significant leap in the state’s forensic capabilities. These vehicles, funded by the Central government at a cost of Rs. 4.8 crore, are equipped with advanced forensic tools designed to enhance the precision and speed of criminal investigations across the state.
Speaking at the launch event in Aizawl, Sapdanga emphasized India’s growing prominence in forensic science, noting that the country ranks among global leaders in the field. He highlighted the pivotal role of forensic science in modern crime-solving, particularly following the infamous 2012 Delhi gangrape 'Nirbhaya Case,' which underscored the critical need for scientific evidence in securing convictions. “Since that tragic case, India has prioritized strengthening forensic infrastructure, and Mizoram is at the forefront of this transformation,” Sapdanga stated.
The Mizoram Forensic Science Laboratory has emerged as a pioneer, adopting cutting-edge practices such as paperless casework, expedited forensic examinations, and a digital case tracking system. These advancements position Mizoram as one of the first states in India to fully embrace technology-driven forensic processes, ensuring faster and more reliable investigations.

The newly launched mobile forensic vehicles are tailored to support the implementation of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, a transformative criminal law that took effect in July 2024. The BNSS mandates forensic certification for evidence in cases involving punishments exceeding seven years, making these vehicles critical for compliance. Equipped with tools for on-site evidence collection and analysis, the vehicles will enable forensic teams to process crime scenes with unprecedented efficiency, reducing delays and enhancing accuracy.
In addition to the mobile units, the Central government has allocated Rs. 6.13 crore to provide Mizoram with 15 sets of advanced forensic equipment. This investment will further bolster the state’s Forensic Science Laboratory, enabling it to handle complex cases with greater precision. According to officials, the combination of mobile vehicles and advanced machinery will significantly strengthen Mizoram’s ability to combat crime, ensuring that law enforcement agencies are equipped to meet modern challenges.
The introduction of these mobile forensic vehicles is expected to have a transformative impact on crime investigation in Mizoram. By bringing cutting-edge technology directly to crime scenes, the vehicles will empower forensic experts to collect, analyze, and preserve evidence more effectively, ultimately leading to higher conviction rates and a safer state. As Mizoram continues to modernize its forensic infrastructure, it sets a powerful example for other states to follow in the pursuit of justice.
