Missing Karnataka Woman Reunited with Family After 18 Months
Missing Woman Found via Google Search
A mentally ill woman from Karwar, Karnataka, missing for over one-and-a-half years, was joyfully reunited with her family on Monday, thanks to the combined efforts of Google Search and the Jeevan Anand Sanstha, a Maharashtra-based NGO. The woman, a postgraduate from Uttara Kannada district, was found in a distressed state in Verna, South Goa, on February 5, 2024, and taken to the Savita Ashram in Pandur village, Sindhudurg district.
At the ashram, she received comprehensive care, including medical treatment, counseling, and emotional support, which gradually improved her mental health. As she began recalling details of her identity, including her hometown, ashram trustee Kisan Choure used Google Search to trace her family’s location in Karwar. He contacted the Karwar City Police Station, which revealed that her family had filed a missing person report at the Karwar Women’s Police Station.
On August 4, 2025, her brother and sister-in-law, accompanied by a police official, arrived at the ashram to reunite with her. The emotional reunion marked the end of a long ordeal for the family, who had been searching for her since early 2024. The Jeevan Anand Sanstha’s dedication, combined with digital tools, proved instrumental in restoring the woman to her loved ones, highlighting the power of community and technology in resolving missing persons cases.
